Walton High School partners with the Ministry of Education in Spain to provide a unique learning opportunity for motivated students. The International Spanish Academy is a specially selected cohort of students that pursue Spanish fluency through immersion in the Spanish language while at Walton High School.
Students must apply to be in the program during their eighth grade year, and will follow the program through all four years of their high school experience. Students who meet the requirements of graduation within ISA will receive a diploma from Walton as well as a Diploma from the Ministry of Education in Spain.
While in ISA, students take an advanced Spanish curriculum including two AP Spanish courses. Additionally, they take portions of the content area humanities classes with Spanish delivery and practice. For example, students in the ISA AP US History course might have lectures and class discussion in Spanish while working towards mastery of the subject area content.
ISA is a humanities-centered program that allows students to follow their passions in a rigorous course pathway, including classes in Spanish language, literature, and culture; as well as classes in English and Social Studies with a Spanish component.
In addition to using Spanish in their classes, students have opportunities to travel, volunteer, and have unique social and educational opportunities.
